UNBS MOVES TO TIGHTEN VERIFICATION OF WEIGHBRIDGES

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has shifted focus to verification of weighbridges to ensure accuracy of the weighing equipment even in the absence of inspectors and clients or public.

During an engagement with stakeholders whose companies use weighbridges, the UNBS Executive Director, Dr. Ben Manyindo revealed that a number of complaints have been received as a result of calibration of weighbridges; among them, inconsistences in measurements during transactions. He however emphasized that Verification of weighbridges will curb fraud and ensure fair trade.

UNBS DESTROYS ALCOHOL IN NON-CONFORMING PACKAGING

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) witnessed the destruction of over 50 cartons of Royal Vodka alcohol packed in 100mls bottles, on Monday.

The destruction, by Parambot Distillers Limited along Gayaza road, follows a directive by UNBS

NATIONAL METROLOGY LABORATORY STAFF GET TRAINING IN TESTING COMPETENCE

Staff of National Metrology Laboratory were trained in ISO IEC 17025:2017 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This training helps staff understand the management system requirements.

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 specifies the general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of laboratories. ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is applicable to all organizations performing laboratory activities, regardless of the number of personnel.

Laboratory customers, regulatory authorities, organizations and schemes using peer-assessment, accreditation bodies, and others use ISO/IEC 17025:2017 in confirming or recognizing the competence of laboratories.

VALIDATION OF THE NATIONAL STANDARDIZATION STRATEGY 2019-2022

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), together with stakeholders from different sectors of Uganda’s economy carried out a validation exercise of the three-year draft National Standardization Strategy. The draft was developed through stakeholder consultations, supported by the Commonwealth Standards Network (CSN).
