UNBS WINS STRATEGIC PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) won Uganda Revenue Authority’s Strategic Partner of the Year award 2019.

CARTONS OF ALCOHOL SEIZED IN A GOVERNMENT JOINT OPERATION;

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), in a joint operation with Uganda Revenue Authority, Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives and the Uganda Police have seized over 400 liters of alcohol packed in bottles less than 200mls, worth 7.4 million shillings in the Kampala City Centre.

Alcohol brands like Lords Blended Malt Whiskey, Royal Circle Whiskey, Legend Whiskey, Mr Doweel’s, Blue Skyz Vodka, Uganda Waragi, Bond 7, Beckam gin, Herdsman blended Whisky, Red Sorghum Whiskey and Twebeleremu Extra gin, packed in 180mls and 100mls bottles were impounded from Divine Traders, Mwebale enterprises and Felix enterprises among others. https://blog.unbs.go.ug/?p=10838

 

UNBS PARTICIPATES IN DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICAN QUALITY POLICY

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) on Thursday convened a stakeholders consultative meeting to discuss and generate comments on the draft African Quality Policy (AQP).

The policy is being developed by African Union to aid the building of Africa Quality Infrastructures to support provision of Standardization and Conformity Assessment services and facilitate Africa economic growth based on production and trade on high quality products. https://blog.unbs.go.ug/?p=10844

 

UNBS BEGINS ENFORCEMENT OF NEW MANDATORY STANDARDS

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is set to kick-off the implementation and enforcement of 187 new mandatory standards.

This comes after the expiration of the notice for the declaration of Compulsory Standards (General Notice No. 472 of 2019 that was published in the New Vision of 25 April 2019 and Uganda Gazette on 3rd May 2019. https://blog.unbs.go.ug/?p=10823

 

EXPERTS BEGIN DEVELOPING ‘BONGO’ STANDARD

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) through Technical Committee 2/ Sub-committee 1 (TC2/SC1; Milk and Milk products) has begun the process of developing the ‘Bongo’ standard, prompted by the increased demand of the products on the market. https://blog.unbs.go.ug/?p=10841

 

UNBS AT THE 27th UMA INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards is participating in the 27th Uganda Manufacturers Association Trade Fair.

The event, expected to end on 10th October, will be officially launched by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday.

 

UNBS TRANSLATES SIMPLIFIED GUIDELINES TO LOCAL LANGUAGES;

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has translated simplified guidelines from English to six local languages to make it easy for local farmers to understand the standards.

Guidelines for rice, shea nuts, soybeans, pineapples and avocado standards were translated to Luganda, Lango, Lumasaaba, Ateso, Acholi and Runyoro-Rutooro, with support from the Commonwealth Standards Network (CSN) and consultations with stakeholders and experts in the respective fields. https://blog.unbs.go.ug/?p=10834
