Makip (U) director convicted for dealing in substandard products

The standards court has convicted Patrick Kariuku Maina, the director of Makip (U) Limited for manufacturing for sale, substandard plastic carrier bags contrary to the UNBS Act as amended 2013.

Makip (U) Limited in Ntenjeru Town Council was found manufacturing plastic carrier bags of less than 30 microns contrary to Uganda Standard US 773:2007, Plastic Carrier bags and flat bags – Specification.

Kariuku has been sentenced three years imprisonment or pay a fine of Sh20 million.

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body responsible for enforcing standards to protect the health and safety of consumers and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.
