UNBS urges business owners to ensure calibration of their weighing scales

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) urges manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers to ensure that calibration of their weighing scales is up to date, in accordance with clause 4.3.5 of Uganda Standard US 28 EAS 39:2002.

This follows country-wide inspections by the UNBS Surveillance team that found weighing scales due for inspection in different bakeries and butcheries.

Some of the businesses found with weighing scales due for calibration include; Quality Uganda Ltd Bakery and Butchery in Lubowa, Prime Care International Limited in Kawempe and others.

Business owners are further urged to ensure good hygiene of their business premises and keep updated hygiene records following the hygiene issues found at Apex Group Manufacturers Limited in Lutembe and Benefits Mini-Supermarket Bakery in Kajjansi.

UNBS also reiterates the call against manufacture, importation and sale of cosmetics containing hydroquinone following the approximately 6kg of banned cosmetics worth 350,000/= found at M.S Enterprises, Nabweru road – Bwaise. The cosmetics include; Citrolight cream, Clairmen, Cocopulp, Beaution, Mikiclaire, Maxi Claire and Zero pimples.

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards continues to perform its mandate of developing, promoting and enforcing standards in protection of public health and safety, and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.
