Construction work for a state of the art National Metrology Laboratory has commenced at Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).
This was revealed by the Ag. Executive Director UNBS Mr. David Ebiru during the site handover for the construction of a state of the art National Metrology Laboratory in Bweyogerere recently.
The National Metrology Laboratory will ensure that the equipment in the National Food Safety Laboratory and other agro-food processing laboratories in the country are calibrated to ensure accurate measurement and reliable test results to support exports and consumer safety.
The UGX 15 billion construction work by Prisma Limited is funded by the African Development Bank under the Agricultural Value Chain Development Programme (AVCP) – Project 1 implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries and will run for 18 months.
UNBS offers calibration services through the National Metrology Laboratories to ensure fairness in trade and precision in industry through reliable measurement systems. The construction of a permanent home for the laboratories will go a long way to ease UNBS calibration work and accelerate the certification process for quality products for export.
