The Uganda National Bureau of Standards has sealed off bakeries found operating in very poor hygiene conditions contrary to Uganda Standard, US 28 EAS 39 – Code of practice for Hygiene in the Food and Drink Manufacturing Industry.
The affected bakeries include; Daddy’s pride bakery, Kanani bakery in Kyegegwa, Mwesigwa quality bakery in Kyenjojo, Upendo bakery and Home bakery in Kakumiro district, Abdul Mwasa Bakery in Mutundwe and Wambilla bakery in Amuru district, .
The bakeries were also producing uncertified bread contrary to the Distinctive Mark Regulation, 2018, that requires all products under mandatory standards to be certified before being placed on the market.
In the same vein, Baharoni Herbal Company and Ntare energy drink factory were sealed off for producing uncertified Combucha with deceptive labels contrary to the Distinctive Mark regulation and the Uganda Standard US EAS 38:2014 – Labelling of pre-packaged foods. General requirements
Over 80 kg of cosmetics banned in Uganda were seized from Enock cosmetics shop, Visa shopping centre, Mamma Ema Ladies Beauty Salon in Bujuuko, Gloria Beauty world in Mpigi, Ojiambo Vincent’s Cosmetic shop along Dubai lane in Namayingo District, Can Deg LOL store in Gulu, cheap price supermarket in Kamwokya, Nakanyike cosmetic shop in Namasuba and Brenda hair world cosmetics seized in Kaliro.
UNBS calls upon the public to desist from using cosmetics banned in Uganda, because they contain Hydroquinone and Mercury whose long term use, according to researchers, could result into Cancer.
UNBS would like to inform the public that anyone found working contrary to the Uganda Standards will be dealt with according to the law.
