The Islamic University of Uganda (IUIU) has commended the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) for the study tour of the UNBS testing laboratories offered to IUIU’s third year Chemistry students.
The UNBS Head of the Chemistry laboratory, Mr. Aziz Mukota, received the students and took them through a comprehensive tour of the UNBS Chemistry laboratory.
IUIU’s Chemistry lecturer Mr. Yusuf Kyejjusa said that the tour is an eye opener that gives students a chance to practically experience the theory taught in class. He commended UNBS for the fine, well-equipped, modern and spacious testing laboratories and recommended such study tours to other university students.
“Most people think that to come for these study tours, you have to pay UNBS money. The visits are free of charge and I encourage universities to work with UNBS for a study tour of science students.” Mr. Kyejjusa said.
The students were glad for the opportunity to physically see different equipment in use and to be able to practically differentiate between the equipment like the Radioisotope technique instrumentation, the liquid Chromatography HPLC, the Gas Chromatograph and mass spectrum and more.
The students encouraged their colleagues to embark on the study tours to upgrade analysis and research in the chemistry field.
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards is committed to promoting the developed standards for the protection of public health and safety and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.
